Your first session at Powerhouse Pilates will be welcoming, slow-paced, and focused on getting to know your body. Whether you’re joining us for a private or a small-group class, your instructor will guide you through the Classical Pilates fundamentals, help you understand the equipment, and offer modifications so you feel safe, comfortable, and supported.
-
All private sessions are 55 mins in length. If it is your first session, please arrive 10 mins early. Semi-Private sessions are 50 mins long while classes are 50 mins long.

A pair of Pilates socks required. Grip or non-slip socks recommended. No open toe socks please.
Form-fitting clothes in general are best for Pilates in order for the instructor to adequately guide body alignment. We suggest wearing yoga pants, leggings, capris and/or non-baggy shorts with a breathable close-fitting top. Do avoid clothes with excess free-flowing fabric as well as anything with zippers or buckles

If you’re new to Pilates or returning after a long break, we recommend starting with our 5-Week Beginner Course or booking a private session. If you already have Pilates experience, our instructor team will help place you in the appropriate small-group Reformer, Tower, or Mat class based on your technique, strength, and comfort level.

Whether you are coming into the studio once a week or 2-3 times per week, consistency is key. Real and powerful long-term change happens when our mind and body get into a rhythm of consistency and repetition.
-
Yes, we have private sessions and classes available on Sundays and free parking in our back lot!
-
Private sessions and classes are subject to a 24 hour cancellation policy while Semi-Private sessions have a 48-hour cancellation policy.
All sessions and classes are non-refundable and non-transferable. Sessions expire depending on the package or membership plan
-
With a membership, you get the greatest value for your sessions. Whether you are taking private sessions or small group classes, you pay less than if you were to drop in or get a package.
Our memberships are designed for clients who are looking for consistency through recurring weekly appointments/classes whether that's 1x a week or 2x a week. We like to set up everyone for success by making Pilates more accessible and affordable to clients who desire and see the benefit of consistency in their practice.
Memberships are set up with monthly auto-payments. Cancel with 30 days notice, and pause for up to 30 days max every 6 months per calendar year. We do not allow pauses and cancellations to be done concurrently.
Benefits include: lower rates per session/class, 10% discount on additional privates and classes, priority scheduling, and a roll over period of 30-60 days for unused credits (depending on which membership you choose)
-
Yes, including Zelle! We do need payments to be completed in order to confirm all appointments
-
To ensure a seamless experience, all memberships require a card on file for secure automatic billing each month. This allows us to reserve your recurring spot and keep your access uninterrupted.
If you prefer, cash/Zelle/Check payments are always welcome for one-time purchases such as class packs, private sessions, or drop-ins but still must be paid in advance of the scheduled class/session.
-
Yes. Packages expire 30-60 days from the first date of use depending on which package is purchased.

Yes — in some cases. Pilates may be eligible for payment or reimbursement through a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) when it is prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider as part of a treatment plan for a diagnosed medical condition.
Because Pilates is typically considered a wellness or fitness activity, an HSA/FSA cannot be used for general exercise or fitness goals.
To use HSA/FSA funds for Pilates, clients will need:
1. A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). This is a simple letter from a licensed healthcare provider stating:
- The client has a diagnosed medical condition
- Pilates is recommended as part of a treatment plan
- The frequency and duration recommended
Clients keep this letter for their own records and submit it to their HSA/FSA provider if required. We do not collect or store medical documentation.
2. A receipt from the studio
We can provide a standard receipt with the service type, dates, and amounts paid. Clients are responsible for submitting this to their HSA/FSA plan if reimbursement is needed.
What conditions might qualify?
Common examples include:
- Chronic back or neck pain
- Postural issues
- Joint instability
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Sciatica
- Post-rehab strengthening after injury
-
At this time, we don’t bill health insurance directly. Our work at the studio is structured as private- or group-fitness, not as medical treatment.
Many clients choose to use a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for Pilates — if your plan allows it, you’re welcome to apply your HSA/FSA funds toward private sessions, package purchases, or class packs.

Small groups mean you’re not just another body in the room — you’re truly guided. With only 3–4 clients per class, every session feels elevated, personalized, and intentional.
Here’s what you can expect in our small groups:
• Individualized feedback that actually helps you improve and understand your body and movement patterns
• Tailored modifications for your body — not a one-size-fits-all approach
• A calm, focused environment without the rush or distraction of loud music or a large crowd
• Weekly structured progress you can feel over randomized workouts -
While the Reformer is an incredible piece of equipment, it represents only one part of the complete Pilates system. Joseph Pilates designed multiple apparatuses — including the Tower/Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, and more — each with a specific purpose to support strength, alignment, mobility, and progression.
Each apparatus challenges the body differently and teaches a new skill.
So if something feels too difficult on the Mat or Reformer, we don’t get stuck — we simply place you on another piece of equipment to support you, strengthen what’s needed, and build the skill so you can eventually master the original exercise. And when you’re ready, those same skills can be challenged in new environments, helping you continue progressing without plateaus. The practice stays interesting, your body keeps adapting, and results come faster and feel better.
This mirrors real life — we’re constantly moving in different environments, and Pilates trains you to adapt with strength and control whether you’re an athlete or spend long hours at a desk.
Large studios that offer only Reformer classes limit your growth.
With the complete system, there is always a path forward, always a way to improve, and your progress never depends on just one machine (we don’t need to make up a ton of random exercises on the Reformer to keep it “interesting”)Complete system = more possibilities and more support for your body

Absolutely — Pilates is a wonderful method to support your body during pregnancy and after birth. It can help with stability, breath, pelvic floor connection, and feeling strong through each stage.
For prenatal and postpartum clients, we typically recommend Private Sessions so we can tailor movement to you and adjust as your body changes. Safety and support come first — and we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Yes — while we are located in Mar Vista, many clients travel from Venice, Culver City, and Marina del Rey for our small-group classes, beginner programs, and private sessions. Our studio is centrally located and easily accessible from across the Westside.

Pilates is a body conditioning method that emphasizes creating a strong and stable center (also called the Powerhouse) to support the spine while simultaneously creating length throughout the entire body by using springs as resistance. All movements in Pilates are meant to flow (no poses) and to be executed with complete control, precision, and proper breathing. The integrated system of Pilates apparatus (e.g. Reformer, Spine Corrector, Cadillac etc.) which helps facilitate these also differentiate the two commonly confused exercise regimens. And because Pilates is best learned in a one-on-one setting, individuals are also favorably situated to understand proper body mechanics and techniques that prevent common injuries during/after exercise
Pilates is not the same as yoga, but the principles learned in Pilates can certainly improve one’s yoga practice or any other physical activity for that matter.

Semi-Private Sessions, also called duets or duos are sessions that consist of 2 participants training under one instructor. This set up works for friends, couples, relatives, or partners who would like to work out together. While this option is more economical than a private session, we usually recommend (but do not require) that beginners take at least 2-3 introductory private sessions before booking a semi-private
